APW - Columbus, Columbus King, 25J, 18S, 8K gold drum style B.W.C.Co. HC recase with "wheat" hallmark indicative of this content, case with attractive floral engraving detail, small seaside château scene to rear, gold cuvette, "Columbus King 25 Jewels" marked white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel as well as jeweled barrel arbor, nickel damascene, s#503182. Gross weight of assembled watch 75.4 dwt (117.3 g). A very rare watch, the total production of the 25 jewel hunting case Columbus is estimated at just 100 total made per the June 2003 NAWCC Bulletin "Railroader's Corner" article, with this total production being divided among movements marked "Columbus King" and "Railway King".
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, few short scratches at plate perimeters, few fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere, broken regulator spring, one balance jewel setting screw is a replacement seated above surrounding surface; flawless dial though with some looseness to mvt as two mvt dial screws are missing (dial feet are present); excellent hands; case shows little wear, dent to upper-right of rear and to lower-left of rear, good engraving detail, case front opens a small bit wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 100 degrees) and front lift spring allows lid to tilt back a bit toward closed with gravity; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
